This panel discussion between eminent voices from civil society, the European Commission and the plastics value chain (producers, convertors and recyclers of plastics) will discuss the key findings of the report "ReShaping Plastics", and how stakeholders can work together towards a circular, climate neutral plastics system.

The event entitled “ReShaping Plastics: Pathways to a Circular, Climate Neutral Plastics System in Europe and Implications for the EU’s Green Deal Agenda” will be an in-person panel debate, held on Tuesday 24 January 2023, 08:00-10:00 am CET, in the European Parliament, Brussels.

The ReShaping Plastics report written by SYSTEMIQ, commissioned by Plastics Europe, maps potential pathways towards circularity and net zero for the whole European Plastics system. It takes a similar approach and scientific methodologies to the Breaking Plastics Wave report to gauge the economic, environmental and social implications of a Business as Usual, and 5 alternative plastics pathways in Europe.

This impartial report was developed under the scrutiny of a fully independent expert panel comprised of leaders across industry, civil society and academia. It provides a science-based roadmap to accelerate the transition to a circular, climate neutral plastics system in Europe.

Panel discussion:

  • Werner Bosmans, Team leader ‘Plastics’, DG Environment, European Commission
  • Joan Marc Simon, Director, Zero Waste Europe (ZWE)
  • Virginia Janssens, Managing Director, Plastics Europe
  • Trishla Shah, Associate and ReShaping Plastics report co-author, SYSTEMIQ
  • Ton Emans, President, Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE)

Moderated by Peter Goult, Programme Lead SYSTEMIQ and ReShaping Plastics report co-author.
